Reading the numbers

The Northern Territory has 23 dump points in the app, and every one of them is in the list below, so this page is the full set rather than a sample. They cover 20 towns and localities. Batchelor, Katherine and Yulara are the only places with two each; everywhere else has one. A small total like this rewards planning ahead: look up the following dump point on your route while you are still at this one.

The record is thin on facilities. Most entries have no facility flags at all, including Alice Springs Dump Point, Jabiru Dump Point, Nhulunbuy Dump Point, Borroloola Dump Point and Mataranka Dump Point. That does not mean those sites have nothing; the National Public Toilet Map simply does not list anything for them. Where flags exist, a washout tap is listed at 4 sites (17%), toilets at 7 (30%), an accessible toilet at 4, drinking water and showers at 2 each, and accessible parking at 1.

Water filling points are easier to find than dump points: the app holds 57 of them in the territory. Olive Pink Botanic Gardens at Inarlenge and Barkly Homestead at Tablelands are the two dump points that list drinking water. The Ayers Rock Resort Dump Point and Caravan Dump Point at Katherine list a washout tap, which is for rinsing a cassette and is not drinking water.

All 23 are listed as free to use. Several sit at roadhouses, resorts or venues, such as Victoria River Roadhouse at Gregory, Caltex Kings Canyon Resort at Petermann and the Darwin Greyhound Club Dump Point at Winnellie. Venues like these can change their arrangements, so confirm on the source page before counting on one. Toilet cassettes and black or grey tanks should only ever be emptied at a dump point.
