Reading the numbers

Bedourie and Birdsville jointly hold the top spot in Queensland, each with four dump points. Barcaldine, Biloela and Bowen come next with three. Across the state the app has 324 dump points in 243 towns and localities, which means a typical town with a dump point has only one, and the places with several are the exception.

The list below shows how varied the hosts are. Hell's Gate Roadhouse at Nicholson and Lakeland Downs Roadhouse at Lakeland sit alongside town parks such as Wyllie Park at Petrie, Coronation Park at Wondai and Lions Park at Kingaroy. A few entries are on islands or inside national parks: Lions Boulevarde Park on Russell Island, Freshwater in Great Sandy National Park at Cooloola Cove, Dundubara Camping Area on Fraser Island, the Fraser Venture Ferry Landing and Ben Ewa camping area at Cowan Cowan. Those take more planning than a roadside stop, so check each linked page first. Dundubara has no fee summary in the record at all.

On facilities, the National Public Toilet Map lists a washout tap at 42 sites (13%) and drinking water at just 22 (7%). Toilets are listed at 77, an accessible toilet at 54, accessible parking at 37, sharps disposal at 28 and showers at 27. These are the flags the source records, so a site without a flag may still have the facility; you simply cannot count on it from this data. Use the washout tap only for rinsing the cassette.

Of the 324, 313 are listed as free to use (97%). With drinking water so rarely listed at dump points, the 670 water filling points the app holds in Queensland are worth looking up separately when you plan a fill. At any stop the practice is the same: cassette contents and black or grey tank waste go into a dump point, never anywhere else.
