Reading the numbers

South Australia has 115 campgrounds in the app, all from SA DEW, spread across 40 parks and reserves. Coorong National Park has the most with 11, followed by Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park with 9, Innamincka Regional Reserve and Ngarkat Conservation Park with 7 each, and Canunda, Dhilba Guuranda-Innes and Gawler Ranges national parks with 6 each. Coffin Bay National Park and Little Dip Conservation Park have 5 each and Deep Creek National Park has 4, so the list below is a sample of a wide spread rather than a few big clusters.

Facility flags are thin in this source. Toilets are listed at only 10 campgrounds (9%): six in Innamincka Regional Reserve (Cullyamurra Waterhole, Kings Site, Minkie Waterhole, Policemans, Queerbidie and Ski Beach), two in Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park (Italowie Gap and Weetootla Gorge), plus Dalhousie Springs in Witjira National Park and Geltwood Beach in Canunda National Park. One campground lists a boat ramp (Morgan Campground in Morgan Conservation Park) and one is listed as no dogs (Ippinitchie Campground, Wirrabara). No drinking water, showers or caravan sites are flagged anywhere, which says more about what the source records than about the sites themselves.

Bookings are where this source is strongest. An online booking page is listed for 101 of the 115 campgrounds (88%), on the park booking pages of the state agency. The record has no fee summary for these campgrounds, which is not the same as camping being free: fees, permits and bookings are set park by park, so check the booking page for the stop you want. Some names carry access notes worth taking literally, such as Arcoona Campground (4WD or high clearance 2WD) and Black Springs Campground (4WD) in Coffin Bay National Park.

The app also carries 199 dump points, 391 rest areas from the national dataset and 140 water filling points in South Australia, so you can plan where to empty, refill and rest between parks. For the statewide rules on where you may camp, read the Camping rules in South Australia guide.
