Reading the numbers

Western Australia has 260 campgrounds in the app, all from DBCA, across 52 parks and reserves. The biggest cluster is Warroora Coast, Nyinggulu Coastal Reserves with 17, well ahead of Dirk Hartog Island National Park on 9. Cape Range National Park and Lane Poole Reserve have 6 each, and D'Entrecasteaux, Francois Peron and Nyinggulara National Park (ex-Ningaloo) have 5 each. Some park names are given exactly as the source holds them, including one marked as a reserve name to be confirmed and Edel Land National Park, marked as proposed, so treat those names as provisional.

Two flags carry real weight in this state’s record. A camping fee is listed at 117 campgrounds (45%), and 106 (41%) are listed as no dogs. Neither covers every site: a campground without a fee flag may still charge, and one without a no-dogs flag is not confirmed as dog friendly. If you travel with a dog, check each campground on the DBCA page before setting out.

Toilets are the most common listed facility, at 221 campgrounds or 85%. Drinking water is listed at 39%, showers at 4% and flush toilets at only 6 sites, so the typical campground here has a toilet and little else on record. Campfires are listed as allowed at a single campground, and caravan sites at one as well. Treat those tiny numbers as gaps in the listing to confirm with DBCA, not as rules.

The places below start with the better-equipped entries, such as Bandilngan Windjana Gorge, Dulundi Silent Grove, Lucky Bay, Le Grand Beach and the Perth Hills Discovery Centre, all with showers and drinking water listed. Many entries in the list have no park attached in this data, so use the dot map and the official link to place them. Fee summaries say only “Camping fee”; amounts, bookings and closures are on the DBCA pages.
