Every state and the Northern Territory now make stations report their prices, though the ACT does not, and each publishes them its own way, so the right fuel app depends on where you are driving. We make AussieCamps, which does not show fuel prices, so it is not ranked here. These are the apps we would use ourselves, checked on 20 October 2026.
The short answer
For an interstate road trip, Petrol Spy is the app here that pulls official prices from the most states into one map, and it is free. Inside one state, the government's own tool is the cleanest source: FuelCheck in New South Wales and the ACT, FuelCheck TAS in Tasmania, Servo Saver in Victoria, FuelWatch in Western Australia and MyFuel NT in the Northern Territory.
Queensland and South Australia have no official consumer app; their reporting schemes feed private apps instead, including Petrol Spy. If you are an NRMA member, the My NRMA app adds a per-litre discount at participating stations on top of whatever price you find.
| App | Who runs it | Price | App Store rating (AU) | Coverage | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol Spy | Private | Free with ads; Premium A$2.89 a year | 4.8 (about 185,000 ratings) | QLD, SA, NSW, WA, TAS, NT; Victoria from user reports | Interstate trips |
| FuelCheck | NSW Government | Free | 4.8 (about 123,000 ratings) | NSW and about 60 ACT stations | Driving in NSW |
| Servo Saver | Victorian Government | Free, in the Service Victoria app | Rated as part of Service Victoria | Victoria | Driving in Victoria |
| FuelWatch | WA Government | Free, website and ServiceWA app | No standalone app | Western Australia | Knowing tomorrow's price in WA |
| FuelCheck TAS | Tasmanian Government (built on the NSW system) | Free | 4.7 (about 3,500 ratings) | Tasmania | Driving in Tasmania |
| Fuel Map Australia | WikiCamps | Free with ads; remove ads A$2.99 | 4.5 (about 6,900 ratings) | Crowd-sourced, official feeds for WA, NSW, QLD | A simple price map with a fuel log |
| My NRMA | NRMA | Free; membership needed for discounts | 4.6 (about 109,000 ratings) | Discounts at participating Ampol stations | NRMA members |
1. Petrol Spy: one map for most of the country
Petrol Spy shows real-time prices for Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, drawing on official feeds such as FuelCheck and FuelWatch and on Queensland's reporting scheme. It has more App Store ratings than any other app here, about 185,000 averaging 4.8, and users report prices too.
Its listing still describes Victorian prices as user-submitted, even though Victoria now runs mandatory reporting through Servo Saver, so in Victoria compare it with the official app. Price cycle graphs for eight capital cities help you judge whether to fill up today or wait. The app is free with ads; Premium removes them for A$2.89 a year or A$14.99 once.
What we like: one app across state borders, cycle graphs and lots of users reporting prices. What to weigh: advertising in the free version, and a last update in July 2025.
- Best single app for interstate trips
- Victoria data is user-reported
- Free, or A$2.89 a year without ads
2. FuelCheck: the official source in New South Wales
The NSW Government's FuelCheck app lists over 2,300 service stations in New South Wales and about 60 in the ACT, with prices uploaded by the stations themselves. It is free, carries no ads and is rated 4.8 from about 123,000 Australian ratings.
Beyond the map, it sends price-drop alerts for favourite stations, finds the cheapest stations along a route with My Trip, and shows trends such as the cheapest day of the cycle. You can report a price that does not match the bowser.
What to weigh: it stops at the border, so an interstate trip needs a second app.
- NSW and ACT only
- Cheapest stations along a route
- Free, no ads
3. Servo Saver: Victoria's official prices
Since mandatory reporting started in Victoria, stations must report price changes within 30 minutes and set the next day's maximum price in advance; it applies from 6am for 24 hours. Servo Saver, inside the free Service Victoria app, shows today's prices, and from 4pm it also shows tomorrow's cap, so you can decide where to fill.
It is ad-free and official. The catch for visitors is that it lives inside a broader government app, and it covers Victoria only.
- Victoria only
- Shows tomorrow's maximum price
- Inside the Service Victoria app
4. FuelWatch: plan around tomorrow's price in Western Australia
Western Australia has the longest-running scheme. Retailers submit tomorrow's price by 2pm, it is published from 2:30pm, and it is fixed for 24 hours from 6am the next day. Knowing tomorrow's price is useful on a long WA leg, where you may pass one roadhouse in a day.
FuelWatch runs on the WA Government website and in the ServiceWA app rather than as its own app.
- Tomorrow's prices from 2:30pm
- Fixed for 24 hours
- Website and ServiceWA app
5. FuelCheck TAS: Tasmania's version
Tasmania uses the same FuelCheck system as New South Wales, in a separate free app covering more than 200 stations. Stations can also report when they have run out of a fuel, which matters on the island's quieter roads. It has a 4.7 rating from about 3,500 Australian ratings.
- Tasmania only
- Shows fuel outages
- Free
6. Fuel Map Australia: a simple map from the WikiCamps team
Fuel Map Australia combines a crowd-sourced station database with official real-time prices for Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland, including WA's next-day prices. It also keeps a fuel log. It is free with ads, or A$2.99 once to remove them.
What to weigh: its last update was in October 2022, and outside those three states the prices depend on users.
- Official prices in WA, NSW and QLD
- Last updated 2022
- A$2.99 once to remove ads
7. My NRMA: a discount rather than a price map
My NRMA is a membership app, not a price comparison tool. Members show a code at participating Ampol Foodary stations for 5 cents a litre off premium fuel and 4 cents off regular. The NRMA sells the discount through My NRMA Rewards, at A$5 a month after a free first month, so work out whether your fills over a trip cover the fee.
- Members only
- 4 to 5 cents a litre at participating Ampol
- Pairs with any price app
State by state: where official prices come from
Use this as a quick guide when you cross a border. The ACT has no scheme of its own, but its stations appear in FuelCheck.
| State or territory | Official source | How to see prices |
|---|---|---|
| New South Wales | FuelCheck (NSW Government) | FuelCheck app or website |
| ACT | No ACT scheme; stations in FuelCheck | FuelCheck app |
| Victoria | Mandatory reporting (Consumer Affairs Victoria) | Servo Saver in the Service Victoria app |
| Queensland | Fuel price reporting scheme (Queensland Treasury) | Private apps that receive the data, such as Petrol Spy |
| South Australia | Fuel pricing information scheme | Registered private apps, such as Petrol Spy |
| Western Australia | FuelWatch (WA Government) | FuelWatch website or ServiceWA app |
| Tasmania | FuelCheck TAS | FuelCheck TAS app |
| Northern Territory | MyFuel NT | MyFuel NT website |
Fuel is the biggest cost you can plan
On most road trips fuel costs more than campsites, and the cheapest litre comes from planning the stops rather than from any single app. Knowing the distance of each leg tells you which towns you must fill in and where you can afford to wait for a cheaper price.
AussieCamps does not show fuel prices, but trips in AussieCamps, part of the Pass, show the driving distance and time for every leg between the stops in your trip, which is the number a fuel plan starts from. Pair it with one of the apps above for the price, and fill up before long remote stretches whatever the price.

- Plan the legs, then the price
- Fill before remote stretches
- AussieCamps shows leg distances
How we chose
We checked each app's Australian App Store listing on 20 October 2026, and each state's reporting rules on its official government page. Ratings are rounded to the nearest hundred or thousand. Prices you see in any app are reported by stations or users and can lag behind the bowser, so check the pump before you fill.

- Official rules from government pages
- The bowser price is what you pay

Common questions
What is the best app for cheap fuel in Australia?+

Is there a fuel price app for Victoria?+
Yes. Servo Saver in the free Service Victoria app shows prices that stations must report within 30 minutes, and from 4pm it shows the next day's maximum price.
Can you see tomorrow's petrol prices in Australia?+
In Western Australia and Victoria, yes. FuelWatch publishes WA's next-day prices from 2:30pm, and Servo Saver shows Victoria's next-day caps from 4pm. Both apply from 6am for 24 hours.
Which fuel app should I use in Queensland?+
Queensland has no government app. Its reporting scheme sends station prices to private apps, and Queensland Treasury lists those that receive the data, including Petrol Spy, FuelMap, MotorMouth, Pumped and RACQ Fuel and Deals.
