Reading the numbers

Tasmania is a small dataset: 27 campgrounds from Tasmania PWS, across 14 parks and reserves. No single park dominates. Maria Island National Park has the most with 4 entries, Southwest National Park has 3, Mount Field and Tasman national parks have 2 each, the rest have one apiece, and a few entries have no park attached at all. With a total this small, the list below covers nearly the whole dataset rather than a sample of it.

Several entries are broader than one campground. Richardsons Beach, Honeymoon Bay and Ranger Creek camping is a single entry, as is Peggs Beach and Black River camping. Other entries describe walking or hut stays rather than drive-in sites, such as Encampment Cove Walk, Huon campground walk, the Walls of Jerusalem overnight walker camping, Mount Field Government Huts and Cradle Mountain Waldheim Cabins. Open the official page for each to see what kind of stay it actually covers.

Toilets are listed at 26 of the 27 entries (96%), the highest share of any facility here. Showers are listed at 44% and drinking water at 37%, while only one entry lists flush toilets and one lists caravan sites (Mayfield Bay). A boat ramp is listed at 11 entries (41%), including Mount Field camping and Huon campground walk, so confirm that flag on the official page before you tow a boat anywhere.

A camping fee is listed for 11 entries (41%), among them Fortescue Bay, Mount Field, Narawntapu, Lime Bay, South Bruny and Darlington on Maria Island. The other entries have no fee summary in this record, which is not the same as being free. Current fees, bookings and closures are set by the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service, so go to its page for each site, and see the Camping rules in Tasmania guide for the statewide rules.
