How to organise saved places in AussieCamps

Use smart lists

Mark a place Liked, Visited, Want to Visit or Starred and it appears in the matching smart collection. Pins and All Saved provide broader views.

Use Starred for the few places that should remain visible above ordinary maybes.

Make custom collections

Create a named collection for a region, season, vehicle or trip. Add an icon and short note so the purpose is obvious months later.

A collection can hold alternatives without forcing them into an active trip.

Clean up after travel

Mark visited places and remove options that no longer interest you. Keep useful notes about access or timing for the next visit.

Private iCloud sync can carry saved states and collections across your devices when enabled.

Separate saved places by intent

The useful division is by what you intend to do with a place: one list for the trip you are taking, one for realistic backups within reach of the route, and one for ideas you may never use.

The backup list earns its place repeatedly. Knowing you have two legal alternatives within an hour changes how you handle a full campground, particularly at dusk on a long weekend.

Mixing all three into one list is what makes a saved collection unusable at exactly the moment you need it.

Name lists so they make sense later

A list called Queensland tells you nothing in four months. Queensland July, powered sites for the van tells you what you were solving for and whether it is reusable.

Name by region, season, vehicle or trip, and add a short description where you can. The reason you saved a place fades fastest and is usually the part that mattered.

Prune after each trip: mark what you visited, delete what did not suit, and keep the access notes that will still be true next time.

Save from the details, not the pin

Open the place before saving it. Access notes, rig suitability, facilities, fees and the source of the information determine whether it works for your setup, and none of that is visible from a map pin.

Add a note about the specific thing that made it worth keeping: only site here with a dump point, gravel access unsuitable for a low car, shaded in the afternoon. That is what makes a shortlist usable.

Saving from the map produces a list of names. Saving from the details produces a list of options you can actually choose between.

Sync and moving lists into trips

With iCloud available and enabled, saved states, collections and trip data sync privately across your devices, so you can plan on a larger screen and have the same lists in the vehicle.

It also means a replaced or reset phone does not take the trip with it, which matters more on a long lap than on a weekend.

When stops are confirmed, move them into a trip. Lists hold possibilities; the planner turns them into an ordered route with distance, and keeping the two separate is what makes either useful.

Using smart collections

Liked, Visited, Want to Visit and Starred update automatically as you mark places, so they track status rather than plans. Visited is genuinely useful on a long lap because it stops you researching somewhere twice.

Pins and All Saved give the wide view when you cannot remember which list something went into. Treat those as the safety net rather than the filing system.

Review the lists at the end of each trip while the detail is fresh, because a note written a month later is never as useful as one written that week.
